Day 12 - World Championship Finals
Wow - what a day! It feels surreal. We had such a great game against Team Scotland. The game could have gone either way. Such great competition at World's. So many amazing competitors. We, along with the Canadian Junior Women's team, are the 2018 World Junior Curling Champions. We are proud beyond words. We will have more to say once we get home - we are madly packing and getting ready to head home early tomorrow morning. Some pictures from our day today! Thank-you everyone for your amazing support. We appreciate it!
Day 11 - Playoff Day
It was a beautiful sunny day in Aberdeen today but with a full day of activities. We had a nice leisurely breakfast and then it was time to head to the club to figure out which rocks we wanted to play with in the semi-finals. Once we completed that, we met the parents for lunch at the Archibald Simpson - an old bank that had been converted into a pub. The food was fantastic! We had a challenge finding where to catch the taxi, but once we did, we headed back to the hotel for the afternoon. Jacques went to cheer on the girls in their semi-final match - we were all watching on line! They won their game against China and are off to the finals vs Sweden in the morning. In the evening we played in the semi-finals vs the USA. We have a long history since we've played each other for many years, and knew it was going to be a great game. We won the game to advance to the gold medal game vs Scotland at 2 pm GST (6 am PST). Click the link above to watch the game live! Thank-you to all of our supporters near and far. We appreciate all of your well wishes!! Time to get a good nights rest!
Day 10 - Last day of Round Robin Play
Today was our last day of round robin play. Before the start of our first game, it was our turn to be honored. We were presented with a host gift and event pins and it was a very proud moment for us when O Canada was played - it fired us up!! We played Russia to a close 7:5 game in the morning. Winning this game secured our spot in the playoff round. We had a restful afternoon and then it was time to head back to the club for our game against Germany. It was a close low scoring game, but that win ensured that we had hammer against the USA in the semi-final. Some meetings before we left for the hotel and our day was done.
Day 9 - Sunny Day in Scotland
We had a beautiful sunny day in Scotland today! You could feel it in the air. Everyone was happy to see the end of the snow and the rain! As much as it reminded us of home, we all appreciated the sun. It gave us an opportunity to take some pictures of the scenery between the hotel and the curling club. Although it was a one game day, we had a full day. We slept in this morning, which was nice and headed down to the Village Grill in the hotel for breakfast! Thanks to Jack and Jamie for the excellent customer service! We went up to one of the big rec rooms in the hotel and played some games before we had to head to the club for our game vs Korea. We were ready to play! We had some really positive energy and pulled off a 6 ender in our first end. The game ended after 6 ends which now puts us tied for second with USA, with a record of 5:2, behind Scotland who have now qualified for the playoffs. Tomorrow is an important day for all of the teams - only the top four will qualify for playoffs with no tiebreakers. We enjoyed dinner out at the Fourmile House, a restaurant near our hotel and walked back. It was great to be out in the fresh air! Looking forward to some practice ice this evening and then we're set to play our last round robin games vs Russia in the morning and Germany in the evening.
Day 8 - Competition Mid-Point
With another double game today, we have passed the mid-point of the competition. We had a morning game against China and we gave up a deuce early in the game and then just seemed to keep on fighting an uphill battle. We gave up a late steal and the game just wasn't meant to be. We all had a good rest in the afternoon and we decided to switch things up a bit. It took us a long time to get to the club today. The weather has warmed up and the snow has been melting. That mixed with the rain today caused flooding in the area and people were rerouting to get home from work, so traffic was incredibly busy. Once we got to the club, we found out that the game would be delayed by 30 minutes, because the other teams had not yet arrived. Once things got going, it was Jordan who took a game break, and Jacques played against Norway with Tyler, Sterling and Zac. All of the teams at the World Juniors are fantastic and once again we found ourselves in a back and forth battle. This time the game went to an extra end but we came out on top Splitting the day means we are sitting at a record of 4:2 which puts us tied for second place with the US and Switzerland. Every game counts, every shot matters. We need to keep our heads down and do what we know we can do. We appreciate everyone's support from home and especially here. It is nice to have so many people supporting us and we appreciate it.
Tomorrow we have a single game day vs Korea.

Day 7 - USA, Curl Clean and Family Night
Despite it being a one game day today, we had a busy day! It has stopped snowing and is drizzling here in Aberdeen, so if feels very much like we're at home! It was nice to sleep in this morning, we were refreshed and ready to get back out on the ice this afternoon. We had another tight game against the USA and knew it was going to be a close one. There were a total of 5 blank ends, but in the end we were able to pull off the W. Today Jacques played third and Sterling sat on the bench with the coaches. We wanted to switch it up so we could get our fifth on the ice to prepare ourselves in case something actually does happen. Jacques is just as ready as the rest of the team.
After the game we all did the Curling Clean challenge and then had a bit of fun making a short video where we "Practiced Runbacks". Go check it out on our facebook page!
We had the night off and some of the parents told us about a great restaurant near their hotel so we went and checked it out. It was called the Toby Carvery and it was fantastic. A huge thank-you to Melissa Soligo and Curling Canada for treating us to dinner tonight! It was great to see our parents and family as we hit the mid-event point! Back to the hotel for some pool time and just hanging out We have a double game day tomorrow - in the morning against China and in the evening against Norway. Both games will be geeked. A huge shout-out to Sterling's mom Nathalie for geeking our games!

Day 6 - Split the Day
It was a double game day for us today. First up was Sweden in the morning and we played well. We had our alternate Jacques play in that game. We had the afternoon off and watched the girls game on live stream. In the evening we played home town favorite Team Scotland and it was a back and forth battle up until the final rocks. We came out on the wrong side of the inch and lost that game. Currently sitting at 2:1.
Day 5 - Competition has begun
We were so happy to get out on the ice today. The Opening Ceremony was held before our draw today. The legend Tom Brewster threw the ceremonial first rock to the pin. It was great to be piped in by the Scottish pipers! Since there was no practice ice yesterday, all teams were given 15 minutes of pre-game practice for the first draw only. We thought the ice was great - lots of swing! Our first game was against Switzerland - it was a back and forth game - very close and in the 7th end we stole a point. We managed to force in the 8th and then score a 4 in the 9th resulting in handshakes. We are taking advantage of the practice ice this evening to get a better sense of the rocks and what the ice is doing. Two game day tomorrow vs Sweden and Scotland. The game vs Scotland will be live streamed. Click the link above to watch the game! We are finding that all of the volunteers here are very friendly and helpful and we feel like we're at home - thank you to everyone at Curl Aberdeen. The hospitality is fantastic! Lots of fans from many countries in the stands - it's great that all of the teams have so much support The girls won both of their games today!
Day 4 - No practice ice!
Today was supposed to be pre-event practice ice, but since 8 teams had not yet arrived, the decision was made to cancel it so that it would be fair for all. Slowly teams trickled in and we think that there is one team still en-route. We took the opportunity to go check out Curl Aberdeen and it looks fantastic. We can't wait to play. We understand it has been quite the transformation from what it normally looks like. We also checked out the huge TESCO Superstore and bought lunch supplies. We hung out this afternoon and then had our uniforms and equipment inspected by the officials. Dinner at the hotel and then it was official team meeting for all of the teams and a welcome reception. We hit the gym/pool for some light activity and then hit the showers! Jordan literally hits the shower when he steps into it - the ceiling that is!! We can't wait for the event to get started tomorrow. We have the Opening Ceremony and then our first game against Switzerland at 2 pm (6am PST). The game will be geeked!
Day 1 -3 - travel Days
We were so excited to get going on Tuesday! Bags were packed and we made it to the airport with plenty of time to go hang out in the Air Canada lounge at YVR. Left on time and arrived in London to what looked like a sprinkling of snow. Unfortunately, as we made our way to passport control to catch our next flight we received notification that our flight to Aberdeen was cancelled. We were lucky that ours was one of the first to get cancelled and British Airways took very food care of us. They put us up in the Renaissance near the airport and gave us meal and shuttle vouchers. We managed to get some sleep and food and we are keeping our fingers crossed that our noon flight is still a go!
Today was a day of crossed fingers. We got up, had a good breakfast and made our way back to Heathrow. Many flights were already cancelled but our flight was showing that it was a go. We patiently waited for our gate to be posted. We waited and we waited and we waited...finally...we had a gate. Boarded a very full flight and waited to be de-iced. We were 7th in the queue. We took off and found out that it was very windy in Aberdeen so again hoped that the plane would make it. Lucky for us it did...now we all hoped that the luggage we had left at Heathrow the night before made it to Aberdeen with us. We were all so happy when we saw the broom bag. Even better...ALL of our luggage made it. We were greeted by some very enthusiastic transportation volunteers who were so happy to have someone to drive. Apparently we were only the third team that made it in the last 2 days. We got to the hotel, had a bite to eat, hot showers, some rest and then met for dinner. Finished off the evening making pin cards and goodie bags for our opposition and found out that since few teams have made it to Aberdeen that the pre event practice was now cancelled. We should find out more tomorrow but for now we are hoping to get a good nights sleep. We are hoping that the girls make it soon! They have had even more of an adventure than we have! Hoping they make it and can get a good nights sleep!
